여성주의 자치기구의 폐지는 왜 반복되는가: 중앙대학교 총여학생회 및 성평등위원회 폐지 사례 분석

This paper traces the processes through which the dissolution of the Women’s Student Council in 2014 and the Gender Equality Committee in 2021 recurred at Chung-Ang University, analyzing the institutional and discursive conditions that enabled this pattern of dissolving feminist self-governing bodies within the university. The study draws on student association documents, transcripts of dissolution proceedings, university publications, news articles, and in-depth interviews with key participants. The analysis reveals that both dissolutions resulted from a single procedural trajectory shaped by the mutual reinforcement of three layers of conditions: accumulated institutional vulnerabilities, cyclical intensification of justificatory ideologies, and mobilization of hostile affect. The core discursive structure underlying this trajectory was the opposition between depoliticized student self-governance and gender equality politics. Within this opposition, abolitionist ideology rendered feminist politics unrepresentable and ungrievable within the discursive order of male-centered student self-governance, either by obscuring the political character of feminist self-governing bodies or by rendering it hypervisible. Simultaneously, the affective forces of care and solid arity generated during the dissolution process were taken up through networks outside the institution, becoming a refusal of the imposed impossibility of mourning within dominant discourse. This study critically examines the discursive assumptions that normalize the dissolution of feminist self-governing bodies and provides a foundational analysis for rethinking the conditions under which feminist politics and institutions can be sustained.
