성(불)평등의 측정 가능성과 한계: 젠더 지수(index)를 중심으로

초록

This paper aims to analyze the conceptual and methodological issues surrounding the measurement index of gender equality or women's status and the frames produced in using these index. The study deals with following issues. First, it discusses the characteristics of GDI, GDI, GII, and GGI, which are major gender equality indexes at the international level. This study analyzes how appropriately the indexes conceptualize gender equality, and pay attention to the political effects through using the indexes in real politics. In doing so, the study examines the capability approach on which the UN indexes are based and neoliberal feminism as the ideological base of the index of the World Economic Forum. Second, the study examines the gender equality index of the European Union and the Korean national gender equality index. Finally, the study tries to suggest policy implication for alternative measurement of gender equality.
