The Effect of Preventive Education on Online Deviant Behavior Among Adolescents

초록

This study empirically examined the effectiveness of preventive education on online deviant behavior among adolescents. Unlike previous research focusing on changes in awareness and attitudes, this study analyzed actual behavioral changes. Survey data from 3,798 elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide were analyzed using Poisson regression. Inverse probability weighting was used to control for group differences, and standardized weights ensured representativeness. The results showed that participation in preventive education did not significantly reduce online deviant behavior. However, students who found the education “helpful” showed a significant decrease. This suggests that the quality and understanding of the education, rather than participation alone, are more closely linked to behavior change. Higher life satisfaction and being a female student were associated with lower rates of online deviant behavior, while students without parental support showed higher rates, highlighting the importance of individual and environmental factors.
