‘통일신라’사 연구의 현황과 새로운 모색

초록

This article attempts to figure out the current situation in the recent decade of researches covering the period from 676 CE to the fall of Silla dynasty and seek a new direction. Recently, there is an image that the research of ‘Unified Silla’ is relatively shrinking, but the results of the actual researches did not match that image. The reason why the researchers have such an image is that there are relatively few issues that may attract a big attention from the researchers, and also relatively few document materials excavated newly. At the same time, interest in the key issues that were previously considered important was diminished, and the direction of discussion was not concentrated on one side. It is noticeable that the big framework which bound the various stories, the tendency of the centripetal force was weaken. The weakening of the centripetal force can also mean that the diversity was strengthened. As for the diversification, there are some concerns about fragmentation, but it should be encouraged in terms of expanding research areas to various themes and subjects. From now, the academic world of history must reach out to the tastes of the masses, and the themes and subjects that meet those tastes can be found among them. In recent years, the global demand for huge historical narrative such as Big History and global history is remarkable. The themes and subjects which are fragmented can expand their stories along each space axis or time axis. The ways in which small stories meet the big world can be various. The expansion of vision is not just for history of Silla Dynasty or ‘Korean History’. Each research can also be a part of bigger story such as the human, the world and the earth not just of the country or the nation.
