초록
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of students and parents on multisouce teacher evaluation, which began to be administered to elementary and secondary school teachers across Korea since 2010. A total of 17,689 students and parents responded to a survey containing 10 items representing controversies on evaluation by education consumers. Descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA was conducted. Data analysis showed that students and parents showed very positive responses on the process and outcome of teacher evaluation. Despite the conventional perception that the evaluation by educational consumers are not fair and candid due to their lack of expertise, students and parents expressed their opinions objectively and frankly. Especially the perception of students and parents at elementary school level turned out to be more positive than those at secondary schools. One of the important findings was that parents perceived their participation in teacher evaluation more positively than students, and those parents who participated in the class observation showed more positive responses. Based on the findings, a few recommendation were made to make education consumers' participation in multisouce teacher evaluation more meaningful and effective for teachers' professional growth.
