A foot is a unit of metre. Patterning of foot is made from same length of sound. Therefore, 3 feet means a metre of three metrical feet per line. Triple metre means one time() divided into 3(). 3 time and 4 time , the most commonly used beats in Gukak, are all composed of triple time. In that aspect, triple metre is universal characteristic of Gukak and traditional characteristic which makes different between Gukak and other countries’ music. Compared to western music, which is based on heart beats, triple metre is based on breath rhythm. type of triple metre brings active and saltatory feeling because former rhythm is long(2) and later rhythm is short(1). On the other hand, type of triple metre brings stability because former rhythm is short(1) and later rhythm is long(2). If arrange Arirang for 4-4 time, it becomes more energetic and active. In case of 3-4time arrangement, it becomes more stable and stiller. However, an opinion, 4 feet is stable and 3 feet is active, is based on misunderstanding of time. Rather, feeling of song is based on the way of dividing one time. It is necessary to reconsider the opinion, 3 feet minyo and goryeo sokyo are korean own traditional music but 4 feet sijo and gasa are influenced by chinese music. Traditional aesthetic aspect of korean music is triple metre not 3 time.
