디지털 기법을 활용한 시조의 ‘새(鳥)’ 수용 양상 고찰 -『韓國時調大事典』 수록 작품을 중심으로-

In March 2016, in a historic match dubbed as the “match of the century,” Lee Sedol, a professional Go player from South Korea, lost to AlphaGo, an artificial intelligence program developed by Google DeepMind, with a score of 1-4. Since then, public interest in artificial intelligence has soared, and with the recent release of Open AI’s conversational AI, ChatGPT-4, the excitement seems to have reached its peak. The discussions sparked by ChatGPT are now influencing almost every domain in society, and literary studies are no exception. In this study, science and technology in classical literature research is utilized in accordance with these trends. Digital analytical techniques can significantly save research time and increase the accuracy of the results. In addition, such techniques provide the possibility of new approaches, which cannot be easily attempted by individual researchers. www.earticle.net Accordingly, through digital analysis techniques, in this study, we summarized the appearance and shape of birds in the sijo contained in 典Korea Times調 through a full investigation. First, the patterns in the beginning, middle, and end of the ‘Korean Sijo Dictionary of the Times’ text file were identified through Python coding, and all sijo poems were collected in a table-structured data frame. However, as most birds have multiple ways of expression, an Excel file was created that included representative bird names (the main name) and all possible alternative names (nicknames) to compile the ‘Sijo Bird Dictionary’. Based on this dictionary, all sijo poems containing words that represent birds, were collected through Python coding. To understand the patterns of bird appearances, data such as the frequency of appearance, location of bird appearance, and number of birds appearing simultaneously, were quantified through coding. A network was created using the Gephi tool, a network visualization tool, and visualized by applying clustering with the Louvain algorithm. This study, which includes a complete survey on birds in the ‘Korean Sijo Dictionary of the Times’, is significant as similar research has not been conducted previously.
