초록
The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationships among parents’ gender role values, family-integrated co-parenting, marital conflict, and young children’s social competence. The study also investigated the mediating effects of co-parenting and marital conflict in the relationship between gender role values and social competence, and whether these structural relationships differ by parent group. Participants were 2,947 parents and their children who took part in the seventh wave (2014) of the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC). Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, factor analysis, structural equation modeling (SEM), and multi-group analysis were conducted using SPSS and AMOS. The major findings were as follows. First, in the father group, all variables were significantly correlated, whereas in the mother group, the correlation between gender role values and marital conflict was not significant. Second, gender role values indirectly influenced children’s social competence through co-parenting alone, as well as through both co-parenting and marital conflict. Third, significant differences were found between fathers and mothers in some structural paths. These findings highlight the importance of parents’ gender role values in shaping the dynamics of co-parenting, marital conflict, and young children’s social competence. The study offers practical implications for designing parent education programs to support children’s social development.
