슬라브 신화에 나타난 테오님(theonyms) 연구 - 블라디미르 대공의 판테온을 중심으로
초록
This research examines the etymological and cultural characteristics of the theonyms of the major gods of Vladimir's Slavic pantheon in Kiev Rus'. Being one of Indo-Europeans, Slavs share a variety of cultural cognates or similarities, in many aspects, with those who used to live, now live on the Pontic-Caspian Steppe, such as Indo-Aryans, Scythians, Ossetians, Alans, and so on. Theonyms exhibit the origin of their own names, analyzing every word, that is, an etymon that consists of the parts of name of a certain god. Understadning the linguistic structure and meaning of theonyms helps acquire the exact information of the given gods from a perspective of history, mythology, culturology, and linguistics, and so forth. Slavic pantheon that Vladimir the Great set up in Kiev consists of the idols-statues of Perun, Khors, Dazhbog, Stribog, Semargl, and Mokosh, and Veles, whose idols was found near low places separately from Vladimir's other gods. There must be some gods of Slavic origin and at the same time, the other gods of Indo-Iranian origin. There are certain cultural cognates or similarities between Slavic paganism and Indo-Iranian religious practices. For example, both belief systems shared a reverence for nature and natural phenomena, as well as the worship of deities associated with the sun, fire, fertility, and war. Additionally, some scholars have suggested possible connections between specific deities in Slavic paganism and those in Indo-Iranian religions. For instance, the Slavic god Perun, associated with thunder and lightning, has been compared to the Vedic god Indra and the Iranian god Verethragna, who also possess similar attributes. It's important to note that the exact nature and extent of these cultural connections remain a subject of scholarly debate. The similarities between Slavic paganism and Indo-Iranian religions may be due to common Indo-European roots shared by both cultures rather than direct influence or contact between them.
