초록
In today's society, weather information is connected with our daily life, and smart phone is becoming a necessity for us. So we analyze the information visualization in the weather forecasting applications, and study how to choose the visual elements can convey information to users more efficiently, and propose improved methods to convey information efficiently. We study the first pages in the first three weather forecasting applications in Android Google Play in March, 2014. We first analyze the elements of the first pages in the three weather applications, and then develop new evaluation metrics based on the prior studies of information visualization. Finally, we conduct a questionnaire about the first pages in the three applications according to the evaluation metrics, and the conclusions are as follows. First, try to utilize the graphic expressions such as icons and images to display the intricate information. Compared with only using words and numbers to express weather information, it can make users understand more easily. Second, take the impact of position factor into consideration when arranging the information. Third, express the relationship and differences between variables clearly, as it is difficult to understand the changes for users if we only use the numbers to express variables like temperature. Finally, avoid listing a large volume of information on one page, and especially avoid listing mere numbers and text. Therefore, when developing new applications, we may refer to the conclusions and a better first page design can make users access the information more efficiently.
