Overuse Injuries Associated with Inline Skating

초록

The purpose of this study is to describe overuse injuries associated with inline skating. From March 2002 to Feburary 2004, this study included 27 patients, 37 cases who have complained of chronic foot & ankle pain. There are 22 males and 5 females and mean age is 23 years 6 months. The mean career is 2 years 2 months. They are 14 racing skaters, 4 free skaters, 8 slalomer's skaters and 1 aggressive skater. Injuries consisted of 10 arch pain, 7 heel blisters and abrasions on heels, 5 navicular bone pain, 4 posterior heel pain, 3 nerve entrapment syndromes, 3 sprains on lateral ankle, 2 lateral malleolar synovitises, 2 toenails injuries and 1 skater’s bites. These injuries were related with a new shoes and long distance inline-skaters.. The main causes of injuries were unfitted carbon-boots, repeated inadequate push-ups and repeated excessive varus position of ankle joints. In conclusion, the overuse injuries that often happened in experts associated with inline skating were likely to be related with boots itself, unfittness between shoes and foot and unskillful skating techniques. For preventing from overuse injuries it is important to select well-fitted boots, learn correct skating techniques and take a good rest.
