국제결혼담론의 계보학적 연구: ‘사진결혼’을 중심으로

초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify the genealogy of Korean people’s understanding about ‘international marriage’. In other words, it is to examine the process in which the discourse on international marriage was produced, how it was combined with other relational experiences within the society and how it was established as the concept we refer to today. To fulfill the purpose, a number of discussions at the time related with photograph marriage were examined. Also, Seize Clouds(「구름을 잡으려고」) by Yo-seop Ju and The Destiny(「운명」) by Baek-nam Yun which embodied the problem of photograph marriage within the boundaries of the literature were examined to see how the meaning of ‘marriage beyond border’ was formed through epistemological discussions in the Japanese colonial period. Photograph marriage had been regarded as an inevitable choice for the survival of those who live outside their home country but it gradually developed negative notions for three reasons generally: 1) harmful consequences including fraud involved in the process, 2) nationalistic viewpoint combined with anti-Japanese tendency rather than individual viewpoint, and 3) uneasy consciousness of men who see the women’s act of choosing photograph marriage as the act of breaking away from patriarchal control. In short, the meaning of photograph marriage turned negative as the notion of androcentric patriarchal nationalism was piled on top of the harmful consequences of the marriage process.
