초록

A sub-400mm2 24-GHz FMCW radar with a 2×2 circularly-polarized (CP) patch-antenna array is proposed. The design focuses on minimizing the overall module size and allowing for high integration flexibility. The proposed radar consists of quadrature coupler (QC) based four-channel CP single antenna and highly integrated frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) integrated chip (IC) with four transmitters (TXs) and four receivers (RXs). In the TX configuration, the four antenna elements are combined to operate as a single left-handed CP (LHCP), while in the RX configuration, each antenna element operates independently with right-handed CP (RHCP). The overall size is 18.75×18.75 (mm2) with multilayered printed-circuit board (PCB) consisting of 6-layers. Lastly, the proposed radar successfully demonstrated FMCW radar functionality by estimating the target’s range and angle.
