Abstract: This study compares the demand characteristics of two types of households, single household and general household, by measuring the expenditure and price elasticity. We specified the AIDS (almost ideal demand system) model. The expenditure for entire food was divided into those for fresh food, processed food, and eating out. Data from the Household Survey and Consumer Price Index were used. Results show that the general households have a higher expenditure elasticity for fresh food, while the single households have a higher expenditure elasticity for processed food and eating out. The price elasticity of the single households was higher than that of the general households for the three types of food expenditure.
