중등교육과정과 대학교육과정 연계에 기반한 대학생 핵심역량 도출 및 진단: C 대학 신입생을 중심으로

Purpose: With the aim of strengthening the articulation between secondary and higher education, this study explored the possibility of deriving core competencies overarching two levels of education (i.e., articulated core competencies). Design/methodology/data/approach: Articulated core competencies encompassing secondary and higher education were derived by analyzing core competencies presented in the 2015 revised curriculum (for secondary level) and educational goals of C university located in Seoul. Then, a survey instrument to measure four core competencies was developed and administered to 809 freshmen of C university. The results of a factor analysis and cronbach α for reliability were presented. Further analyses were conducted by using repeated measures ANOVA across articulated core competencies and one-way ANOVAs according to admission types. Findings/ Results: Six articulated core competencies were identified to encompass secondary and university curricula: communication, creativity, knowledge and information processing, community, aesthetic sensibility, and self-management competencies.　The factor analysis of the survey results revealed sub-components of communication competency (receptive, expressive, and intercultural) and those of knowledge and information processing competency (utilizing and restructuring). C university students showed a high level of receptive communication competency and community competency, but their competencies in knowledge & information processing, creativity, and expressive communication were relatively low. In addition, the students accepted via the comprehensive evaluation system of high school records showed higher levels of competencies than the students accepted via the subject-oriented evaluation system or the essay test. Values: As a case study, this study illustrates a way to articulate context-specific goals of a university comparing to the goals of secondary curriculum. This can be applied to other universities and thereby will contribute to enhancing the articulation of secondary and higher education.
