Crossover Narrative in Film Scoring: Connecting Classical Traditions with Popular Music Pedagogy

초록

Purpose This study examines the tradition of programme music and auditory narrative in Western music and early film scores, and proposes teaching-learning strategies applicable to popular music education. Methods Narrative techniques in Romantic programme music (Berlioz, Liszt, Wagner) and early twentieth-century film music (Saint-Saëns, Shostakovich) were analysed. These findings informed a framework connecting Western music history with practical music curricula. Results Connecting classical and practical music proved effective for developing teaching-learning guides and for overcoming cultural dichotomies. The results also highlight the need for ongoing pedagogical and scholarly work in practical music. Conclusion Film music derives from the narrative functions of Romantic programme music and serves as an effective resource for developing teaching-learning strategies in practical music education.
