한국 시사 잡지의 국제뉴스 다양성 연구: 심슨 다양성 지수를 활용한 커버스토리 분석

초록

Investigating the diversity in international news of South Korean weekly magazines,top four weekly magazine’s cover stories were analyzed utilizing Simpson’s diversity in-dex. Results showed that Weekly Chosun had the most positive tone on news regardingChina, while Sisa Journal had the most negative tone towards North Korea. Hankyoreh21 and Sisa In both similarly reported news of United States in a negative tone. How-ever, on news reporting related to Europe, all four weekly magazines reported in a posi-tive tone. Diversity in number of countries covered was highest in Weekly Chosun, whilediversity in the form of article was highest in Hankyoreh 21, and news subject diversitywas highest in Sisa In. In the category of source diversity, contributor and source wereboth highest in Weekly Chosun. This study showed the importance in developing the “lifein-depth reporting“ method that benchmarks European social culture and economicalcase in order to provide high quality international news reporting.
