The influence of religiosity on general trust, self-efficacy, and life-satisfaction - A comparison between Protestants and non-believers in life-style -

초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze positive influence of religiosity on life style. A total of 378 participants - 166 believers in Protestant and 212 non-believers - were asked to complete a questionnaire of religiosity, general trust, self-efficacy, and life-satisfaction. In study 1 differences in general trust, self-efficacy, and life-satisfaction between protestants and non-believers were examined. Results indicated that Protestants were higher than non-believer in all of the religiosity, trust, self-efficacy and life-satisfaction. In study 2 Structural Equation Model(SEM) analysis was adopted for examining the influence of religiosity on general trust, self-efficacy, and life-satisfaction for each of Protestants and non-believers. For Protestants, religiosity influenced general trust and life-satisfaction significantly. Also self-efficacy influenced significantly life-satisfaction. This suggests that people may develop trust and life-satisfaction through religiosity people. For non-believers, on the other hand, general trust influenced self-efficacy significantly, and self-efficacy influenced life-satisfaction significantly. This suggests that trust increases self-efficacy and these two factors have a positive effect on life-satisfaction. In conclusion, humans who believe in and trust the absolute being(the ultimate) have intention to grow and pursue more life-satisfaction through religiosity.
