초록

To circumvent the issue of significant space occupation and limited detection range associated with commercial 24 GHz radar sensor and to seamlessly integrated into smart devices, this paper proposed a new ultra-compact and highly isolated frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensor which is appropriate for short range object detection applications. The proposed ultra-compact radar sensor is designed with a shared circular polarization (CP) TX-RX antenna, featuring extensive object detection range which is achieved by using characteristic mode analysis (CMA) decoupling method to attenuate the port-to-port leakage. The Infineon radar Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) is then integrated with proposed antenna, enabling it to accomplish the function of detection. The proposed radar antenna was measured, demonstrating a peak gain of 5.66 dBic for port 1 and 4.09 dBic for port 2 with respect to a port-to-port isolation greater than 30 dB. Additionally, the performance of the proposed 24 GHz radar sensor was evaluated by building holistic radar signal processing platform, showing an augmented detection range from 1 m to 11 m.
