Stress and Its coping strategies among Newly Graduated Nurses

Stress is a major concern in the nursing profession with work overload and high turnover rates as the common stressors. Newly qualified nurses are at particular risk with stress as suffering of physical and emotional exhaustion with practice environments. Despite of new graduate nurses’s potential vulnerability, development of stress with working life in hospital has been increased to make burnout. This study examined the various factors affecting the experience of stress and the coping strategies adopted were also investigated. The purpose of this study was to find and identify the perceived subjectivity toward the stress strategies for new graduate nurses who is working in hospital. This study used the Q Methodology with 30 Q-sample and P-sample. The Q factor analysis found 3 distinct factors. The first Type is a “Self directed factor” which settle their own problems without any helping situation. The second Type is a “Dependence oriented factor” which depend on God and other people to cope the stress in a variety of situation. The third Type is a “Hopeful future oriented factor” which use the coping strategies with positive and hopeful thinking. The conclusion is to understand the strategies of coping to the stress and to develop the educational program in the future.
