초록
This study aims to examine diachronically the patterns of pejorativity in gender-related neologisms as they appear in online discourse, drawing on the National Institute of the Korean Language Neologism Collections (2000-2019) and online texts from X. Rather than treating gender-related neologisms merely as a subcategory of hate speech, this study analyzes how pejorativity is combined with and transformed through the processes of neologism formation, diffusion, and use, distinguishing between neologisms targeting women and those targeting men. The analysis shows that pejorativity in female-targeting gender neologisms tends to emerge relatively early and to be accumulated and conventionalized over a long period, becoming fixed in ways that typify and categorize female identity. In contrast, pejorativity in male-targeting gender neologisms is generated and diffused intensively in more recent periods, often triggered by specific social conflicts, and is characterized by rapid shifts in usage contexts through processes such as mirroring and memetic circulation. These differences suggest that the pejorative qualities of gender-related neologisms are shaped, sustained, and transformed in distinct ways depending on gendered social positions and discursive structures.
