초록

Purpose: With the development of blockchain using distributed ledger technology in the private sector and the widespread introduction of digital currency based on blockchain, the interest of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) issued by central banks in each country is also increasing. Although there is a high possibility that CBDC will not be introduced immediately in Korea, how can CBDC, which is being introduced internationally, be activated in Korea? is becoming a major issue. Therefore, this paper aims to contribute to promoting the introduction of CBDC in Korea by studying ways to revitalize it. Composition/Logic: This paper is composed of five chapters. Chapter I describes the background of the research and the purpose of the research as an introduction. Chapter 2 explains the previous research and the background of Central Bank Digital Currency(CBDC). Chapter 3 covers methods of introduction of CBDC. Chapter 4 derives the direction for activating CBDC In Korea. Chapter 5 concludes this paper. Findings: In order to revitalize CBDC, the Bank of Korea first have to present a blueprint for CBDC and develop a roadmap accordingly to enter the CBDC market early. Second, the operation model of the Korean CBDC should be developed. Third, an integrated legal system shall be developed for the CBDC to operate. Fourth, it is necessary to review operational feasibility, technical feasibility, and legal feasibility by promoting pilot projects. Fifth, the limitations and responsibilities associated with access to information should be clarified. Originality/Value: The full-fledged discussion of CBDC was made with the commercialization of blockchain technology based on distributed ledger technology and the introduction of digital currency based on it. CBDC stands for digital currency issued by the central bank, so this paper suggests five ways to boost CBDC for the Bank of Korea as a central bank, highlighting its differentiation from other papers and its creativity. It is also original to discuss operational feasibility, technical feasibility and legal validity of CBDC models.
