초록
This study examines the association between energy poverty and depression, and how this relationship will vary by age. Though the suicide rate and poverty among older adults in Korea are extremely high compared to other countries, no studies have paid attention to the potential harmful association between energy poverty and depression. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed using the 2023 Korea Welfare Panel Study (N=12,984). Results show that the relationship between energy poverty and depression was different by age. Compared with those younger than 50, older age groups (50-64, 65-74, 75 and older) showed significantly steeper increases in depression as energy poverty worsened. Findings have implications for supporting older adults who lack the necessary energy for daily living in order to prevent the exacerbation of their depressive symptoms.
