초록

This study examines the convergence of global popular culture genre conventions and Korean traditional culture in <K-pop Demon Hunters>. The animation adheres to the fantasy genre’s master plot of the battle between good and evil while integrating the protagonist’s identity crisis, thereby producing both narrative engagement and universal thematic resonance. While contemporary popular and everyday cultures are incorporated within their real-life contexts, traditional culture is decontextualized and recontextualized as hybrid cultural signs. In this process, Korean traditional culture is positioned non-linearly and non-hierarchically within global genre conventions, signaling its transformation into a global cultural database and the onset of deterritorialization. <K-pop Demon Hunters> thus illustrates a new stage in the appropriation of Korean tradition by global cultural capital, highlighting the dynamics of decontextualization, hybridity, and globalization in contemporary media culture.
