웹서사[웹툰, 웹소설]에 재현된 무당의 양상과 특징

초록

This study aims to arrange a list of web narratives[webtoons and web novels] about shamans and examine the characteristics of the reenactment of shamans in web narratives and the ways to combine shamans with fantasy. For these purposes, the study arranged a list of 14 webtoons and 16 web novels which were about shamans and published serially on the major platforms since 2010. The study analyzed the ways to combine shamans with fantasy in these works and found a couple of characteristics including a “combination of an occult with resolving the resentment of a vindictive ghost,” “getting possessed and the heterogeneous living together of a god and people,” and “turning shamans into signifiers and the hybrid of the fantasy genre.” It is difficult to see interest in shamans and shamanism in web narratives since 2010 as the inheritance of traditional culture. It should not be neglected that shamans, shamanism, and vindictive ghosts utilized as materials in web narratives are unrealistic fantasies. In web narratives, shamans and shamanism work as strange and mysterious materials and fantasy to resolve conflicts with mysterious abilities. Today, most web narratives remain at a level of stitching up conflicts and contradictions in reality with shamans' unrealistic abilities. Web narratives need to understand shamans' fate by accepting the shamanistic worldview of “getting pent-up and untangled” and conduct an inquiry into the incomplete nature of human beings like two webtoons Princess Bari and Mystic Pop-up Bar and the web novel The Returning Ghost to give readers more sympathy and impression above the level.
