한국인의 듣기 인식에 대한 탐색적 연구

This study investigates how Korean adults perceive the act of listening, and how their epistemological structure is represented in a semantic network analysis. The perception of two groups - university students and office workers were compared, and the aspect in which they differed were also investigated. With regard to “to listen (to listen to someone speak),” the two groups collectively deemed “the other,” “understanding,” and “sympathy” the most important terms. However, only in the group of university students the words “attention,” “mood,” “point of view,” and “appropriate” emerged as key terms. Key terms exclusive to the group of experts were “effort,” “emotion,” “heart,” and “acceptance,” and the terms “meaning,” “thought”, “opinion,” “emotion,” and “to listen attentively” demonstrated a close centrality as well. This study also implemented a community analysis to investigate the epistemological structure more closely. The epistemological structure was classified into five communities. The words “sympathy,” “capability,” “appropriate,” “expression,” and “response” belonged to the first group, the second community consisted of “emotion,” “feeling,” “effort,” “heart,” “clarity,” “the other,” “circumstance,” “understanding,” “attitude,” and “perception,” and the third community comprised “attention,” “context,” “thought,” “acceptance,” “opinion,” and “respect.” The terms “to listen attentively,” “meaning,” “story,” and “concentration” made up the fourth community, and the fifth community was composed of “question,” and “action.” As the perception of listening could influence the act of listening itself and the process of listening, we hope this study contributes to clarifying what the act of listening actually is, and also to systemize the theories surrounding listening.
