A Study on Users’ Intents to Exit by a Genre in Online Game

초록

The size of world online game market grew to be approximately $3.4 billion in 2005 and it has achieved the highest profitability and growth rate in comparison with other digital contents. Despite the fact, the studies about the online game industry are only focusing on limited game genre. Recently, the key point to notice in the game industry is that games are being developed in diverse genre whereas the games in the past were limited in particular genre. Further, the PLC(Product Life Cycle) for game development is shortened. This research conducted a study on genre and users’ intents to exit, which are both important issues of online game industry. We empirically tested how users’ intents to exit differed based on their preference of game genre. As a result, we showed there were differences in users’ intents to exit based on the differences in genre. This study helps online game companies in developing and operating the future online games by examining the effect of differences in users’ intents to exit.
