A Study on the Russian Cultural Contents of the Opening Ceremony at the Sochi Winter Olympics - Focused on the Identity of Russia and Dvoeverie -

초록

This paper analyzes the characteristics of the identity of Russia and ‘Dvoeverie’, double-belief or dual faith, contained in the cultural contents of the four opening performances of 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, such as ‘the Russian Alphabet’, ‘the Voice of Russia’, ‘the Trip to Russia’, and ‘the End of Winter, the Beginning of Spring’ with a special attention to soft power of the 21st century that serves as a means of forming a domestic or international national image and showing a national competitiveness. Benefiting from these cultural representations, the newly re-born Russia symbolizes the Russian soft power enough to overcome age-long foreign influences and dominations and, moreover, characterizes the Russian dual faith, as mental energy, through the cultural amalgamation between Slavic paganistic traditions and Russian orthodox cultures, which associates with culturally new-born Russia intentionally.
