A basic belief is a faith that starts from justification, and therefore it must be justifiable by maintaining the basic belief without having a reason for the basic belief. Thus, what J. L. Pollock presents is a more relaxed proposal than maintaining the firm incorrigibility that must always be adhered to in traditional foundation theories. It is a new proposal that immediately uses the expression ‘prima facie justified’ to set out negative justification as opposed to positive justification. This applies the method of self-justification by presuming that beliefs by direct perception are true in a position of affirmation of themselves, even without any independent confirmation or justification process, although they can be false. It can be said that perceptual beliefs belonging to common sense usually have an intrinsic guarantee of truth in this way. It is based on the idea that there is a causal and lawful association established between a sensory state and a first-person report on such a state, and that perceptual belief becomes self-guaranteed by such related self-directed properties or by the characteristics of the situation reporting such a feeling otherwise. He distinguishes immediately from being justified and true, and is self-guaranteed in that he does not completely authenticate his belief in having a certain sensory experience, but provides an inherent guarantee of conviction to be true.
