The Post-Corona Era and the Corporatization of Korean Universities

초록

After the Corona pandemic, the Triangle Alliance, which consists of capital, state power and university administrations will push more strongly for the corporatization of universities in South Korea. Yet this corporatization has been going on since the 2000s and has put Korean universities into crisis. This study begins with the concern that, post-covid-19, Korean universities could operate for the benefit of capital if professors and researchers do not seriously consider what to do right now to prevent the corporatization. The study first analyzes how much corporatization has progressed in Korea's four-year-degree private universities by examining the composition of their board of directors, industry-academic cooperation, and the employment circumstancesof full-time non-tenure track facult. Next, the study examines the positives and deficiencies of various proposals made so far regarding how to overcome the corporatization of the Korean universities. Finally, this article suggests how to start preventing acorporatization.
