초록
This study analyzes the aesthetic elements in Balenciaga's designs based on Karl Rosenkranz’s theory of ugliness, exploring how contemporary fashion expands the concept of beauty. The objectives are: first, to examine the connection between Rosenkranz’s theory and Balenciaga's designs; second, to extract creative characteristics in the designs post-Demna Gvasalia and analyze how ugliness expands aesthetic concepts; third, to explore the artistic value and meaning of ugliness in modern fashion through Balenciaga collections. The research method involved a combination of theoretical examination and case analysis, and the research subject was limited to Balenciaga's collections led by Demna Gvasalia. The findings show that Balenciaga’s designs align with Rosenkranz’s theory, presenting new aesthetic possibilities through three main features: ‘de-formalization,’ ‘de-standardization,’ and ‘denormalization.’ In conclusion, Balenciaga transcends traditional fashion norms, creating a cultural space that values inclusivity and diversity, and reshaping contemporary fashion aesthetics. This study contributes to understanding how the concept of beauty in fashion is evolving, offering an innovative perspective on the future direction of fashion design.
