Exploration of Online Class Activities for Dance Instructors in Arts High School

초록

This study explored the concerns of dance instructors struggling to instruct practicum class in the COVID-19 situation and examined online class activity factors through qualitative research method. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, 4 dance instructors currently working in arts high school with experiences of instructing online classes in the COVID-19 situation were selected as the targets to conduct detailed and in-depth interviews. As a result, the following findings were gained in this study. First, it is the first time to implement online class for dance course, which is a practicum course, so both the dance instructors and students are having a hard time adjusting to the new educational environment and the results showed that this lowered dance learning effects. Second, online dance class activities involve indirect feedbacks and a lack of communication so it caused difficulties in the interaction between the dance instructors and students, and there was low satisfaction about practicum class. The educational environment is rapidly changing due to COVID-19 so measures that can enhance the class environment (facility), online teaching methods, and students' attitudes should be considered as priorities in order to heighten the effectiveness of online dance class.
