This study proposes implicit metacognition as an alternative to explicit metacognition, which is often used in eyewitness testimony, aiming to address its limitations. To examine the effect of implicit metacognition on memory accuracy, eye-tracker was employed. To achieve this, 100 participants were recruited to perform a face-clothing association task. During the study phase, participants were instructed to memorize 25 face-clothing pairs. When presented with the associated clothing, participants were asked to select the correct face from a set of three options. To measure eye movement, eye trackers were employed to record the duration of fixation on each option and the frequency of gaze shifts between them. In addition, response times were measured, and participants were asked to indicate their level of confidence in their answers after making a selection. The results of the binary logistic regression analysis indicated that confidence and saccades were found to significantly predict memory accuracy. This study addresses the limitations of confidence, which are often highly subjective and lack objectivity. The objective measures using eye-tracker are expected to enhance the reliability of eyewitness testimony.
